An Open Door to Mischievous Spirits
 In the hands of a well-trained medium or Spiritualist, the Ouija board can be a useful tool and there are many interesting cases on record where the board has given useful and empirical information. For example, it was in the use of a Ouija board that, at a séance in St. Louis in 1913, a spirit announced itself as an entity named Patience Worth. By this method, it also dictated several interesting historical novels whose insight into past eras still intrigue historians, feeling that it was beyond the capacities of the medium through whom it was received.
I personally find the Ouija board a tedious and inaccurate way to communicate with the spirit world. There seems to be very little point once you have developed mediumship. However, it is a method that appeals to those who want to take a short cut to spirit communication. Using it, it is possible to communicate with the people you love who have passed on. Because the method is so tied to the energies of the earth plane, however, it also throws open the door to every spirit that wants to “log on.” Without a powerful medium in control, using the Ouija board is a spiritual minefield.
OUIJA BOARD PREDICTS A DEATH
 I’m reminded of one consultation in which it was revealed by the sitter that her son and some teenagers had been playing with the Ouija board. What started out as a way of relieving boredom took on a sinister turn when the board spelled out that all five of the boys present would die.
In just over a week, one boy was dead and two others have since died in tragic circumstances.
The mother of the first boy, age seventeen, told me, “When my son told his Dad and me he was going to die, we thought he was joking. We had no idea he and his four friends had been messing with the Ouija board.” About a week later, her son was dead. He had been attacked on New Year’s Eve and, during the fight, his head was banged against the pavement several times.
 “My son collapsed a few days after the fight, while babysitting for my other son’s children. He was rushed to the hospital and put on life-support. On the tenth day, pneumonia set in and he just slipped away.
“A few months later, one of the other boys caught pneumonia while camping and died. It was a shock, as he’d been so healthy. That’s when one of my son’s friends came to see us. He was in total panic and told us about the Ouija board. It all seemed so ridiculous to us. But this year, another of the group took his own life, leaving only two out of the five.”
During the consultation with the mother, who also saw my wife Jane, we were able to advise her that the other boys would be okay. This was the work of mischievous spirits and it need not become a self-fulfilling prophecy. The others would be fine. Some years have passed since this case and the other two boys continue to thrive.
A properly developed and trained medium will keep his or her mind and soul centered on the higher truths, and resist the temptation to meddle with the phenomena of the lower states. Instead, mediumship, practiced with love and light, can be of great benefit to the world and bring wonderful comfort to the bereaved. Ouija boards, however, are usually a path to trouble, as practitioners tend to approach it in a spirit of fear.
