NEW YEAR PUZZLE
 My father was the only person allowed to open the front door at the stroke of midnight and let in the New Year. On the year, that he died it was of course very hard to know what to do. We all sat waiting for midnight and looking at each other. Who would get up and open the door? But something very strange happened that I just cannot explain. At the stroke of twelve, there was a loud knock at the door and it opened by itself!
We all rushed to see if anyone was there but the street was bare. It never happened again on following years and I like to think that it was father giving us a sign that he is ok.

There are a number of earthly possibilities to explain what happened. It could have been the wind, a person running by and banging on all the doors or a loose hinge. However, from the letters we’ve had it does seem that the spirit people can influence our world so I’ll keep an open verdict about this one. |
