Unable to move and trying to scream.
Have you ever woken up only to find yourself unable to move a muscle? Sleep paralysis can happen when entering sleep (hypnagogic paralysis), or when waking (hypnopompic paralysis).

FROZEN WITH FRIGHT
Recently I stayed at my friend’s house and came down with flu. During the night, I awoke. Although I still had my eyes shut, I could sense something around me. I asked the presence not to reveal itself because I was too frightened.
I could not see anything when I finally opened my eyes but sensed something lifting up in front of me. I felt it lifting my legs. Next, my body felt completely rigid but was being lifted into the air. I could see the whole room. I tried to shout “No, no, no!” I wanted to scream but no sounds would come out of my mouth. I was terrified and will not stay in that house anymore.
Could you explain to me what happened? Surely, if it was something good, I would not have been so frightened.

What happened has nothing to do with your friend’s house or malicious spirits. I believe that this is another mild case of what psychologists call 'Sleep Paralysis' which is related to a condition called Narcolepsy. (A sleep disorder marked by sudden, uncontrollable urges to sleep, causing an individual to fall asleep at inappropriate times.) Sleep paralysis can happen when entering sleep (hypnagogic paralysis), or when waking (hypnopompic paralysis).
This is a common condition found in adults and children. Your mind wakes up but not the part of your mind that controls the body. This is often accompanied by feelings of fear as you cannot move or cry out. In some cases, the person wakes up unable to move while their dream or nightmare continues. This condition is usually triggered by extreme fatigue (you had flu). There is absolutely nothing to worry about and, in reality, it only lasts a few seconds. Don’t panic if it occurred again, just wait while the rest of you wakes up.
