Using Crystals for Psychic Protection
“Every discoloration of the stone, Every accidental crack or dent, Seems a water-course or an avalanche, Or lofty slope where it still snows. W. B. YEATS (from Lapis Lazuli)
Current interest in the healing and protective power of crystals can be traced to some writings about American psychic Edgar Cayce and many scattered references to crystals in his readings. Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) was one of the most influential psychics of all time.
When he died, he left a unique resource; complete transcripts of over 1600 readings given in the last decades of his life to hundreds of people who came to him for help and advice. Cayce considered lapis lazuli to be one of the most important stones for protection. While in trance, he is recorded as saying “… the lapis ligurius would bring much that will act in a way as would be termed a protective influence if kept about the entity” (1931-1 M.20 born 9/11/19).
In fact, Lapis Lazuli is the most often mentioned gem material in the Cayce readings and can have a number of spiritual qualities. Cayce speaks of how the high electrical vibration of this gem material can strengthen and aid the person as well as create a better relationship between the mental and spiritual selves. It is also said to bring live vitality and healing. (Cayce also recommended beryl and scarab for their protective qualities)
It is interesting to note that the ancient cultures of India also believe that adverse influences can be countered in some instances by wearing certain gems, stones or metals. The Indian master Yogananda received these interesting words of advice from his own master Sri Yukteswar:
“Just as a house may be fitted with a copper rod to absorb the shock of lightning, so the bodily temple can be protected in certain ways.
Electrical and magnetic radiations are ceaselessly circulating in the universe; they affect man’s body for good and ill. Ages ago our rishis pondered the problem of combating the adverse effects of subtle cosmic influences. The sages discovered that pure metals emit an astral light, which is powerfully counteractive to negative influences of the planets. Certain plant combinations were also found helpful. Most effective of all are faultless jewels of not less than two carats.
The practical preventative uses of astrology have seldom been seriously studied outside of India. One little-known fact is that the proper jewels, metals, and plant preparations are valueless unless the required weight secured and unless the remedial agent is worn next to the skin.
For general purposes, I counsel the use of armlets made of gold, silver, and copper. But for a specific purpose, I want you to get one of silver and lead.”
In recent years, these ideas have resurfaced. I am in contact with many people who experiment with the properties of materials, trying to find ways to use as protection from not only earth energies but vibrations and rays projected from machinery and domestic appliances. Computers and mobile phones are said to be particularly dangerous to our health.
A colleague of mine, who experiments with Kirlian photography, has found that the aura appears shattered if photographed while using a mobile phone or computer. I feel that further study is necessary to rule out whether it is the equipment itself being influenced by the pulses from a mobile phone. Nonetheless, the first results are interesting. Findings show that one of the best protective materials against this type of influence is black tourmaline. It appears to safeguard the aura.
