Review and article about BE HAPPY - Encounters with Sadhguru Sri Sharavana Baba first published in Caduceus Magazine.
Craig Hamilton-Parker is a renowned psychic medium and author who works with his wife, Jane, to contact the dead and send messages to loved ones. He has gained extensive media coverage because many of his predictions have come true, notably Donald Trump’s presidency, terrorist attacks in Nice, and Brexit.
This is Craig’s second book about Sadhguru Sri Sharavana Baba (warmly known as Swamiji). It unfolds as a spiritual adventure detailing how Craig receives a frightening message from the Agastya Naadi Sashtra concerning his grandson and the race to find a holy man who can help change the course of his destiny. It then follows his encounters with Swamiji and his visits to India. Written during the COVID pandemic, it contains many predictions and insights into this world crisis. He discusses the world's future, happiness, and how we can find it in these troubled times.
He was asked to write this book by Sadhguru Sri Sharavana Baba;
‘I come to the front of the line and get my chance to be with Swami for a few moments. He is pleased to see me and takes hold of my hand as we speak together.
“I have an idea for the title of my book,” I say. ‘What do you think of the title “Be Happy?”
“Yes, yes very good title. Now let’s make it a Big Book” said Swami.
The Naadi Sastras
In a previous book, Messages from the Universe, Craig explains how he consulted the Naadi Saahtras, oracles written by the ancient sages of India who foresaw the destiny of humankind thousands of years ago. These reveal the destiny of anyone who consults them. Through contacts in India, Craig found a genuine Naadi, which revealed accurate predictions, such as the names of his family members and significant details of his life and what would happen in his future life. He experiences the Jeeva Naadi to communicate with sages who have reached a higher plane and access guidance and remedies for life’s difficulties.
In this book, Craig receives a frightening prediction from the Naadi that there may be a serious health problem for a family member and this is borne out when his grandson is rushed to hospital and diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. He further consults the Naadi, which confirms this to be a life-threatening condition. This may be remedied by receiving the blessings of a holy man, Sri Sharavana Baba. By sheer cosmic coincidence, Swamiji flies in from India and can meet the family in time to meet the deadline stated by the Naadi oracle.
Encounters with Sri Sharavana Baba
Craig continues his spiritual journey with Sri Sharavana Baba, whose guidance concurs with his messages from the Naadi Sastras. This age of Kali Yurga (age of darkness) casts a shadow of doubt across humanity, however, he finds in Sri Sharavana Baba a true Guru (‘One who dispels darkness). Far from the traditional ideas of austere spiritual leaders, Swamiji, like Krishna, is everyone’s friend, full of smiles and jokes but with a deeply spiritual subtext. He is very accessible; Swamiji often visits the UK, and all are welcome to attend his free spiritual programmes.
Swamiji aims to inspire humanity with the universal qualities of love, compassion, and selfless service. This is demonstrated by his extensive Charitable Trust, which seeks to uplift the lives of the poor and those in need. Following ancient Vedic traditions, he continues to conduct devotional worship, such as Pujas (ritualised devotional worship) and Yagnams (sacred fire rituals). He also leads prayers for peace in the world.
Craig writes a very personal account of his meetings with Swamiji. He explores his encounters and relationship with a spiritual teacher in modern times and against the context of the Western Christian tradition with its apparent contradictions. He finds a new resolution, which resonates as true in his life and this modern world.
Coronavirus predictions
In 2017 Craig had predicted a pandemic, a virus that would sweep the world. At the time, he was dismissed by the media as a ‘Prophet of Doom’. What seemed fantastic then has proved to be our reality now. His predictions of the pandemic are borne out by other predictions, such as those of the Kalagnanam (‘Knowledge of Times’ or ‘Prophecy”). In fact, the ancient Naadi oracle predicted that Craig would alert people to the impact of a ‘gas cloud’ that arose out of China.
Adventures in India
At Sharavana Baba’s invitation, Craig travels to his Ashram in Kerala for Maha Shivarathri, the Great Night of Shiva, where Lord Shiva performs his cosmic dance as Nataraja. On this night, devotees endeavour to devote the whole night to the Lord.
In early 2020, as the Coronavirus epidemic spread worldwide, Craig began his Indian adventure. He writes about the Western experience of Ashram life, which he finds to be a friendly place with a ‘slow and steady rhythm’. He also explores Hindu philosophy and his experiences at many Hindu temples, including those of the Naga (serpent) deities.
Craig meets Swamiji at the Ashram and is struck again by his clairvoyance in knowing personal details about himself and his family. He also encounters others who have been deeply touched by Swamiji’s solace and Grace and who have experienced miracles firsthand; Swamiji uplifts the lives of all those he meets.
Be Happy
Craig explores traditional ideas of happiness within different traditions and in our struggles in this modern world. At this age of Kali Yurga, he consults the Naadi and finds the answer: that as the clouds of ignorance cover the world and humanity craves material wealth, then this consciousness attracts negativity and creates troubles such as viruses and diseases. This occurs so that we are forced to look inward and awaken. He concludes;
‘ Happiness takes hard work. It comes partly through inner discipline and by training ourselves to drop poison afflictions that poison the mind. Through spiritual practise we can eradicate ignorance and come to understand that happiness or otherwise is of our own making.’… ‘We have the choice to be lost in delusion or to awaken to a higher consciousness.’
In his book he asks Swamiji; ‘Swami, what is happiness?’
Swamiji responds;
‘Happiness is awakening inside. Inside all is light. Inside all is strength. Inside all is happiness. Happiness is living from the inside’.
Sadhguru Sri Sharavana Baba
Sadhguru Sri Sharavana Baba is a renowned spiritual leader. He is warmly known as Swamiji and respected as a Mahatma (‘Great Soul’). His universal message of love and compassion has attracted thousands of devotees worldwide.
Swamiji was born to a humble family in Sreekrishnapuram, Kerala. According to Vedic astrology, his birth and life were predicted to be very special in this age of Kali Yuga. It is said that he often would play with snakes found in his cradle as a small child. During his youth and teenage years, he was absorbed in prayer and meditation and visited many Hindu Temples. He would beg for alms and distribute them to the poor and needy. He would make pilgrimages to holy sites in Southern India, frequently Palini; the most sacred shrine to the Hindu Deity Lord Murugan.
His vision is one of global peace and harmony. From the Hindu tradition, Swamiji emphasises the importance of interfaith harmony and the idea that all religions are equal paths to the Divine. In our modern world, characterised by consumerism, social unrest, natural disasters, and conflict (‘Kali Yurga’), Swamiji asks that we all pray for peace and act with our conscience to promote good thoughts, words, and deeds.
Swamiji often visits the UK, and all are welcome to attend his free spiritual programmes, where anyone can receive his Darshan (Blessing) with counsel and spiritual guidance.
